Getting There provides a simple and illustrated overview of the design and construction process.  Whether building new or transforming an existing house, this booklet is designed for those unfamiliar with the language used and steps that are taken to get the home you want.

to retain us for the duration of your particular project. In some cases, the consultation will be all the architectural services required. Subsequent architectural services, if needed, can be discussed and reviewed during the design consultation.

Getting The Most From Your Design Consultation
The following items will help us give you the most useful recommendations in the least amount of time. Have copies ready before the consultation begins.

Your Wish List.  Tells us where it “hurts” and what you’d like the outcome to be.  Describe how you use the house and any changes you envision in your family.  Tell us about yourself and about your lifestyle.

Site Plan or  Plat of Survey. This document, prepared by a Surveyor, locates your house relative to property lines, driveway, and servitudes. It is often included with your closing documents.
Your Clip File. No two homeowners prefer the same materials, colors, fixtures or appliances. To help us learn your preferences, tear out pages from favorite home improvement magazines illustrating the “feel” you want. Place a note on each, noting the items that caught your eye.

What Does It Cost?
An initial design consultation takes two to three hours and costs
$600 including the session’s conclusions.  Additional consulting time is offered at our normal hourly rates.  Travel to your home within the Tampa / St. Petersburg area and the metro Chicago area is free.  For locations outside theses areas, travel charges can be negotiated in advance.

Satisfaction Assured
If you aren’t completely satisfied with the design consultation during the first hour, you may stop the consultation at that time without charge.

Initial Design Consultation
Whether new construction or for homeowners considering an addition or renovation, we offer an initial design consultation that gives you an award winning and nationally recognized architect’s expertise for a reasonable fee.

What to Expect
Think of a design consultation as a house call: we visit your home, discuss and sketch possibilities, and answer basic questions about costs and construction alternatives. Together we can explore the features and possibilities of a new home, placement of the new home on your site, how and where to place a needed expansion, how to reconfigure existing spaces, improve curb appeal, and more. We can even recommend how to avoid common mistakes made when constructing a new home or when expanding an existing house.  Many if not all conceptual possibilities are explored during this design consultation. Depending on the project’s complexity and the available documentation, some consultations may take longer.  After the consultation, we’ll follow up with a letter that documents the results and conclusions of the design consultation. The design consultation is a “stand alone” service. You are not required
